The Next Best Gift

Acts1:8 "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Jesus promises us the Holy Spirit, and with it, power. Personally, I know that I have had a very different journey with each part of the Trinity. We have to realize that the Godhead is neccesary in all its parts: God as Father, Jesus as Son (and Friend), and the Holy Spirit, who is the Comforter. I banged with Jesus, because I knew about real friends. I personally love love love my friends and I really felt the love from Him. I mean, He gave His life for me, what more could I ask?!? With God Himself, it took a while for me to actually trust Him and recognize His love for me. I don't have a great relationship with my own daddy, and I pretty much thought unconsciously that God was this distant disciplinarian who only saw my faults. I am constantly working on my relationship with God, and I would just like to add here that God is the best EVERYTHING (especially Father) in the world. We cannot put Him in a box as to what role He has in our lives.

Now, in relation to these other relationships, my journey with the Holy Spirit began somewhat recently. I am still discovering It as well as Its power. The Holy Spirit is the very Spirit of God inside of us. This is my opinion: when the Lord created the world, He created it pure and unadultered. That is how He wished us to be. Along the way, we got lost. Who we are now is who God created us to be, yes, but with a few unneccessary additions. I feel like the Holy Spirit in us shows us how to be the person He truly created us to be.

The Holy Spirit manifests itself in many ways in our lives, which can be read in Acts (go and read it, it's very interesting). However, I feel like the central, most important thing the Spirit does for us is listed below:
Romans 8:27-28
26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. 27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.

I think that it is both amazing and evidence of real love that the Spirit keeps us in harmony with God, even when we, in our flesh, don't even know we are sinning. That is the best gift, other than His life, that God could ever give to me.

So how do we recieve the Holy Spirit? Stay tuned...
