Psalm 23

When I became a member of my church, I received a great book of daily devotionals written by Jerome LaMont Rollins. This is his devotional on Psalm 23.

When we allow God, our Shepherd, to guide us, we have contentment. Wen we choose to sin, however, we go our own way and cannot blame God for the environment we create for ourselves. Our Shepherd knows the "green pastures" and "quite waters" that will restore us. We will reach these places only by following Him obediently. Rebelling against the shepherd's lead is actually rebelling against our own best interests. We must remember this the next time we are tempted to go out own way rather than the shepherd's way.

Some of us probably have never thought nor looked at Psalm 23 in this way...

The Lord is my Shepherd... That's Relationship!
I shall not want... That's Supply!
He makes me to lie down in green pastures... That's Rest!
He leads me beside the still waters.. That's Refreshment!
He restores my soul... That's Healing!
He leads me in the paths of righteousness... That's Guidance!
For His name sake... That's Purpose!
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death... That's Testing!
I will fear no evil... That's Protection!
For Thou art with me... That's Faithfulness!
Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me... That's Discipline!
Thou prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies... That's Hope!
Thou anoint my head with oil... That's Consecration!
My cup runs over... That's Abundance!
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life... That's Blessings!
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord... That's Security!
Forever... That's Eternity!
Be comforted by God's presence, rod and staff!

With Love,
