Acts 20:24 (God's Word Translation) - But I don't place any value on my own life. I want to finish the race I'm running. I want to carry out the mission I received from the Lord Jesus-the mission of testifying to the Good News of God's kindness.
God has gifted and appointed us all various purposes in life. Whether it is to raise your children, graduate from school, preach the gospel, sing and record an album, teach a class, dance, or build your own business; God has given us all something to do. It may take us a while to figure out what that purpose is, but nonetheless, we are all called to a particular purpose.
Many scholars will argue that the most important thing in life is to realize your purpose and go for it. Now while I agree that those are important steps, I don't believe it's the most important. I believe the most important step is to resolve within yourself to stay committed.
Commitment is one of the toughest words for us to understand, especially in this "microwave" age. We expect everything to be immediate and to move swiftly. We must realize that our purpose is what we are destined to do with our life, not just for this very moment. God has called us to something great, and nothing great happens overnight.
It takes commitment to finish the race. As the scripture says, we need that drive to finish the race. No matter what the obstacle, no matter who discourages us, and no matter how long it takes, we must hold on to a resolve that we will carry out the mission God has placed us on earth to accomplish.
Commitment is simply dedication. Take the fear out of the word today and decide to become dedicated to the will of the Father. Decide today that no matter what, you will be dedicated until you hear the Father say "Mission Accomplished!"
Father today we pray that you open our eyes to the mission you have called us to. Father, resolve within us today to be dedicated no matter what, to the mission you have given us. We know it's not impossible, because through You, oh King, NOTHING is impossible or too hard for you. So today God, give us the extra boost of strength to be committed till the end when we hear you say "well done," or in other words "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!" In Jesus Name, Amen.
